The directors for the ‘The Blair Witch Project’, Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez were not a well-known director when they started the film. They were also the editor and the writer of the film eliminating the cost to hire an editor and also the story rights, which contributes to low budget film making. In addition, their producer were also not well-known, therefore, the salary and the hiring of their producers may not have cost that much.
The casts they hire Heather Donahue, Michael Williams and Joshua Leonard were all newcomer actors. The hiring of the casts cost have also contributed to low budget film making, hiring a well-known actors and actresses could go over budget.
The equipment they used weren’t as expensive as the one used in Hollywood films. The filming lasted for eight days, therefore, accommodating the crew wouldn’t cost them as much as compare to a three month long filming.
They marketed their film predominantly via the internet. They released fake police reports, interviews, campaigns for missing person and shared childhood photos of the actors to create a sense of realism. These footage had raised debates across the internet.
In conclusion, ‘The Blair Witch Project’ was a success grossing over $240 million. Despite, the budget of $60,000 divided to casting, production cost, producers, directors and accommodating all the expensive, the film became successful.
